7/26/2023 0 Comments Cyber shadow achievement guideDon't get me wrong, my love for the game as a whole hadn't waned - if anything, it was still growing as I got those boss strategies down and bested them in turn with minimal resources. I can't remember being as reluctant to launch a game as I was firing up Cyber Shadow the following day. And to have not ruined my run with a stupid mistake. I had spent the first half of this session being awful and getting nowhere, but I was glad to have made a decent chunk of progress through one of the runs in the end. Keen to avoid any further silly slip-ups in future, I decided to tap out there for the time being as it was getting late, and that could have legitimately killed this run had I taken that upgrade to the next checkpoint before realising my mistake. Which I did, handily, although the run was nowhere near as clean as the previous one. Thankfully, the game only saves at checkpoints, so I just had to quit and reload and beat the boss again. In the heat of the moment, though, I made a schoolboy error and accidentally grabbed the health boost the boss drops when defeated. That helped a bit, and I was able to scrape through to the boss and get the quick kill for Fast track in just a couple of attempts once I worked out how best to exploit the train boss' openings. The amount of times I died because of accidental dashes in my first run before I realised you can turn off this method (double-tap forwards) and just use RB instead is pretty ridiculous, and the issue is compounded if you love to parry like I do, since they share the same directional input. Honestly, that's one of the best pieces of advice I can offer if you plan on finishing Cyber Shadow yourself. A few avoidable deaths came from input errors, then I realised that I hadn't disabled the double-tap command for the dash, so fixed my error there and then. I-frames after taking damage are over scarily fast, so it can even be two hits from the same attack or obstacle that does you in. From here, most enemies and hazards hit for either two or three points of damage, and with only 5HP, that basically makes you a two-shot to more or less anything. I'd already done the two challenges for Chapter 5 and while the level itself is a bit of a pain, those two bosses are among my favourite (and fastest) fights as they both massively reward parry-heavy play, so those went down fast.Ĭhapter 6 is where the difficulty really starts to ramp up, and I took a lot of expected deaths here. After getting the Chapter 4 boss challenge, Floor is lava, out of the way pretty easily, I pressed on. I decided to skip the achievement for not touching the water in the interest of making progress - I have another save right there anyway, although I only took one bath towards the end of my boss kill this time so was confident that one wouldn't be too bad, especially with more health and stamina to work with. Chapter 4 went pretty well once I found my flow, and I put my nemesis Mekadragon down quickly. I still wasn't playing my best at first, although the quick-fire rinse/repeat nature of dying in two hits and having to do a section again helped shake off some of the rust. That, and you may recall that I managed to make it all the way to Chapter 4 with only a couple of stumbles, so I had high hopes of doing alright here. Even with minimal health and SP, there's no limit to how many times you can retry a section, so it's not as bad as it seems. That will likely be the first and only time I describe a 0% run of a difficult game as 'lenient,' but compared to the instant fail condition I'd been banging my head against, it's accurate. That one could wait, as I needed something a little more lenient to get my groove back. This took the wind out of my sails a little, especially after coming so close last time, so I decided it was time for a change of tack. You know, the one thing you shouldn't do in a deathless run attempt. Unsurprisingly, this led to me getting bumped into a pit late in Chapter 2 by one of those damn flies (I'd say that they'll be the death of me, but they already have countless times at this point), and the next few attempts went even worse as frustration set in and instead of playing it safe, I tried to rush things. Execution was sloppy, mistakes frequent, and bosses way messier than they should have been. A few days had passed since I last booted up the game but from the standard of my play, you'd have thought it had been months. Once again, I started a new game in slot six (right next to the 'delete save' option for maximum efficiency) and jumped in. After coming so close to unlocking Live forever last time I played, I decided that was where I'd begin - getting one of The Big Three out of the way seemed like a great mental milestone to pass early and get me in the right mind space to take on the rest.
